A 21-year-old Texas mother was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly beating her infant to death for crying, according to reports.

San Antonio Police charged Samantha Elizabeth Baker with intentionally or knowingly injuring a child.

According to the police report, Baker brought one-month-old Fletcher Sterling unresponsive on June 10 to the Children’s Hospital of San Antonio. She said that she woke up from a nap and found the infant face down in the crib.

But the Bexar County Medical Examiner’s Office told investigators that the baby died from blunt force trauma, specifically a skull fracture to the left side of his head.

Detectives presented the autopsy findings to Baker, but she stuck to her story that she found the baby face down in the crib. After she was questioned further by investigators, Baker confessed to hitting the baby “hard” about three times on his head “with an open palm strike,” according to the police report. Baker said she became frustrated when Fletcher began to cry and she took her frustration out on the infant.

Baker is being held in the Bexar County Jail on a $200,000 bond.
