The identities of three people who died in a mass shooting over the weekend in Missouri has been released by the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department.
Law enforcement has also identified an additional surviving victim, bringing the total number of victims of the 57th Street and Prospect Avenue shooting to nine.
After investigating throughout the day Sunday, police say a ‘subject of interest’ has been taken into custody regarding an overnight shooting that left three people dead and six more hospitalized.
Police found three shooting victims in a parking lot and the street just south of the intersection when they arrived at the scene just after 4:30 a.m. on June 25. Those three victims — two men and one woman — died at the scene.
On Monday, police identified the three victims who died as 28-year-old Jasity J. Strong, 29-year-old Camden M. Brown, and 22-year-old Nikko A. Manning.
Officers say at least six more shooting victims arrived at various hospitals by private vehicles or ambulances. Police say they have non-life-threatening injuries.
KCPD initially identified five surviving victims before making connecting a sixth hospitalized person with injuries from the shooting.
As a result of their investigation, police identified a subject of interest at a residence in the 5300 block of Martha Truman Road in Grandview, Missouri.
Detectives responded to that location just after 5 p.m. and took an adult man into custody without incident for further investigation. The investigation is ongoing, and detectives are still gathering evidence to present a case to prosecutors for consideration of applicable charges.
The identity of the man taken into custody will only become public if charges are filed.
“My condolences to the families of the three people killed,” Mayor Quinton Lucas said in a series of tweets Sunday morning.
Police say it appears there was a large gathering of people in the parking lot at the intersection when the shooting broke out.
Detectives believe there are many witnesses that could have valuable information. Anyone around the area at the time is asked to call the TIPS Hotline anonymously at 816-474-TIPS. There is a reward of up to $25,000 for information submitted anonymously to the TIPS hotline.
Additional circumstances regarding the shooting have not yet been released by law enforcement.
