The Lynchburg Police Department has arrested a Virginia mother and charged her with murder in connection to the death of a 1-year-old child in 2020.

LPD responded on Jan. 23, 2020, to a 911 call at Brookside Apartments. When police arrived they found a child who was not breathing and emergency crews could not save the child even after rendering lifesaving aid.

After a long investigation, detectives determined that reckless disregard for human life had a hand in the child’s death.

On Wednesday, June 7, LPD arrested Brandy Lynn Parker and charged her with felony murder and felony child abuse and neglect.

Parker is being held at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail without bond.

According to warrants obtained by a Virginia news station, Parker called 911 in 2020 stating to police that “her 2-year-old child fell asleep on top of the infant on the couch” and that Parker found the infant “stuck” in the couch.

Warrants also said Parker was the mother of the child.

The infant was pronounced dead at Lynchburg General Hospital after attempted lifesaving efforts by medics.

The warrants state that officers on the scene detected the “odor of alcohol” coming from Parker.

Parker admitted to consuming alcohol the previous night, according to warrants. Child Protective Services responded to the scene and submitted her to a Preliminary Breath Test (PBT).

Warrants revealed that Parker’s test registered a 0.14 and that a sample of blood was requested for further testing of Parker’s blood alcohol levels.

Police said this was “due to the fact she was the sole caretaker of the infant and 2-year-old at the time of the infant’s death.”

If you have information about the incident, LPD said to call Detective C. T. Davis at 434-455-6166 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 798-5900.
