A 16-year-old Arizona boy was shot at a Phoenix apartment complex Friday morning, police confirmed.
The severely wounded teen was found at an apartment near 7th Street and Bell Road at around 10:30 a.m.
He was hospitalized in life-threatening condition and later died. He was identified as 16-year-old Antawn Haynes.
Investigators say the victim’s adult brother was holding a handgun when the teen grabbed the gun and it went off.
“The adult brother was released from the scene after being interviewed,” police said. “This remains an active investigation into what happened leading up to the shooting.”
No other details have been released.
