A 23-year-old North Carolina man is in custody after a 44-year-old woman was found dead in her Charlotte home Friday morning, authorities said.

Shortly after the death of Santavius McBride Friday morning, a person of interest turned himself in for the shooting, CMPD reported.

Police say officers made contact with Marques McBride within an hour of the 911 call when he went to the parking lot of the Independence Division patrol office.

McBride said he wanted to turn himself in for the shooting and killing of his mother.

After being transported and interviewed, Marques McBride was charged with first-degree murder and transferred into the custody of the county sheriff’s office.

According to family members, Marques Marques was one of Santavius’s sons.

On Friday, officers responded to a 911 call near Foxford Place in east Charlotte where they found a female victim dead inside her home.

Family members said the victim was a mother of four boys.

Anyone with additional information is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a homicide unit detective, or leave information anonymously by contacting Crime Stoppers at (704) 334-1600.
