A Nevada woman found dead in a Fernley house fire on Saturday was a homicide victim, according to reports

Lyon County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) deputies and fire personnel responded to 320 Aspen Way in Fernley for the report of a house fire around 11 a.m. on July 15. When crews arrived they found a fire isolated within a bedroom of the residence.

Once the fire was extinguished, a deceased woman later identified as Sephra Fitak was located within the bedroom.

The Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division along with Nevada State Fire Marshal Investigators and Washoe County Sheriff’s Office Forensic Investigators responded to the scene. The investigation determined that Sephra had been the victim of a homicide and the fire had been intentionally set in an attempt to conceal the crime.

Authorities say Sephra’s boyfriend Roger Lee Borud was identified as the suspect.

Roger was arrested by Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Deputies on July 15 for burglary, home invasion and probation violation in an unrelated investigation.

On July 16, 2023, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division arrested Roger for open murder and first degree arson.
