A South Carolina Magistrate denied bond Wednesday morning for 44-year-old Jason Edward Back in connection with a murder that happened on Monday along the 500 block of Wire Road in Darlington County.

Back is charged in the shooting death of 36-year-old David Colby “DC” Redick.

The warrant reads: The defendant did, with malice aforethought cause the death of the victim by shooting him in the chest during an altercation. The affiant has statements and other evidence to prove the same.

Online booking reports show Back was placed into the W. Glenn Campbell Detention Center at 9:11 p.m. Monday.

Several community members said deputies were on Green Street for several hours on Monday and according to the warrants, Back lives in that area.

He’s also charged with possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Darlington County Sheriff James Hudson said their homicide team and investigators worked countless hours on the murder in an effort to gain leads to make an arrest.

“We worked all day. Homicide team and investigators stayed with it all day long. It’s hard work and they’re really doing an awesome job. We got a good percentage rate of solvability,” said Hudson.
