A one-year-old toddler has died after being found inside a hot car parked outside a Nebraska daycare center, according to reports.
Ra’Miyah Worthington died after Omaha police said she was left in a hot car outside the Kidz of the Future Child Development Center on Monday afternoon.
An Omaha police spokesperson said, “Officers responded to Kidz of the Future Childcare at 3:06 p.m. Monday for an unresponsive child who was left in a van. Omaha Fire Department medics transported the child to the Nebraska Medical Center where the victim was declared dead.
Investigators have arrested the van driver, 62-year-old Ryan Williams, for child abuse by neglect resulting in death.
The van involved is registered to the daycare owner. The driver picked up Ra’Miyah and two of her siblings Monday morning.
The other two children were removed from the van. Ra’Miyah was not.
“The daycare picks them up in the morning, early in the morning,” the father, Rianna Worthington said. “My thing is how can you forget a kid that you yourself put into the vehicle, but you took the other two off? How do you forget one when you take two off the van? How did you forget my baby?”
It’s still unclear just how long Ra’Miyah was left inside the van, but her parents have their suspicions.
“The daycare has an app,” Worthington said. “They’ll tell you stuff with their kids throughout the day. She was never checked in. Only one of the three we sent was checked in, so put two and two together. You had to have my baby left in this car since this morning.”
The investigation is ongoing.”
AccuWeather stated that the heat rose to a scorching 98.6 degrees on Monday, and it’s expected to reach 104 degrees on Wednesday.
Omaha police earlier said the vehicle where Worthington was found was registered to the daycare’s owner.
