Mobile police in Alabama have captured the suspect in the homicide of a 30-year-old woman, who was found dead in front of her apartment Monday night.
Police responded to a report of a shooting at Townhouse Square Apartments on Wagner Street about 8:23 p.m. Monday.
When they arrived, they found the lifeless body of Malinda Robertson in front of the apartment dead from an apparent gunshot wound.
By midday Tuesday, Mobile police 37-year-old Milton Farris had been taken into custody without incident, with the Gulf Coast Regional Task Force and K9 units assisting Mobile police.
Farris was still at the scene Monday night when police arrived, but despite the presence of “dozens of officers, a SWAT team, K-9 officers and investigators,” Farris was able to escape capture.
Farris has a lengthy criminal record, including arrests on weapons charges, drug possession, theft and menacing, as well as five arrests for domestic violence. He has served both time in jail and on probation, and in March was sentenced to one month in jail and placed on three years probation after pleading guilty to stealing a firearm from a Mobile pawn shop.
Farris has also been convicted of multiple felonies in Florida, court records show.
Court records also list a “Melinda Robinson” or, alternatively, “Belinda Robinson” as Farris’ girlfriend and emergency contact. It’s unclear if that’s the same person as Monday’s victim.
Children were in the apartment at the time of the shooting, but were unharmed, Mobile police Cpl. Katrina Frazier confirmed Tuesday morning. The children’s ages range from 2 to 12, Frazier said.
