A California mother has been arrested for the kidnapping and murder of her two-year-old child in January of this year, the Redding Police Department announced.

According to Redding police, 21-year-old Macie Marie Silvey has been booked into the Shasta County Jail for the aforementioned charges following an investigation into her child’s “suspicious” vehicle death.

In January of this year, Redding police say law enforcement and medical personnel responded to Deschutes Road and Highway 44 after receiving a report of a unresponsive child inside a vehicle. Crews arrived to the scene and reportedly found the unresponsive two-year-old in the vehicle and transported them to a local hospital. However, later that same evening, police say the child died.

Police say the child’s death was deemed suspicious and their department began investigating the case.

In the months-long investigation that followed, police said investigators determined Silvey purposefully gave her child prescription drugs on the day of the child’s death. Despite knowing her child had consumed “multiple medications,” and was displaying obvious symptoms of overdose, police say Silvey drove the child to a rural area and prevented them from receiving emergency medical aid for multiple hours.

Today, police say a no-bail arrest warrant was obtained for Silvey, charging her with murder and kidnapping. She was ultimately arrested and booked into the Shasta County Jail.

Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contact the Redding Police Department Detective division.
