The Florida mother of a baby who was found floating in the Boynton Beach Inlet more than five years ago pleaded guilty in a August 9 hearing, according to reports.

“Baby June” was only days old when an off-duty firefighter spotted her floating in the water in 2018. The mother, Arya Singh, originally pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder earlier this year, but now she’s received a 14-year prison sentence with 10 years of probation following her guilty plea to aggravated manslaughter of a child and abuse of a dead human body.

Officials believed five years ago Baby June was floating for six to 18 hours from as far south as Broward County.

Four years after the newborn child was found, the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office announced in December 2022 the arrest of Singh, charging her with first-degree murder.

During the investigation, the sheriff’s office said cold case investigators spoke with Baby June’s father, who claimed he thought Singh had taken care of the baby through an abortion.

A search history of the mother’s phone also revealed her to be in the area of the Boynton Beach Inlet on May 30, 2018, which was the same day as Baby June’s birth. According to the sheriff’s office, Singh didn’t know she was pregnant and gave birth over a toilet in a hotel room.

The now-sentenced mother told detectives Baby June was already dead when she was born.

The newborn was never given a name by her mother. She was named by the off-duty firefighter who named the infant Baby June.
