A Nevada woman is charged with allegedly trying to hire someone to kill her father in Las Vegas, according to police and court records.

Monique Williams was arrested on July 27 on suspicion of solicitation to commit murder and prohibited person in possession of a gun. Court records indicate a criminal complaint was filed Tuesday formally charging her.

In a warrant for her arrest, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police wrote that detectives were tipped to a possible murder-for-hire case in October last year. A confidential source told police that Williams spoke about needing to “have someone taken care of.”

An attorney for Williams did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment.

The source told police Williams contacted them saying she had another job for them and asked if they needed guns. Williams later messaged this person with a picture of the address, house and photo of the alleged target. Police say they believed the target was Williams’s father based on the pictures she sent. Williams allegedly promised to pay the source $10,000.

Police wrote that a records check found an extensive criminal history for Williams. She had a prior arrest for attempted murder, which was pleaded down to a disorderly conduct charge.

Detectives later met with the source in October and Williams “appeared to be getting impatient,” LVMPD wrote. Citing a threat of violence, police searched a search warrant at her home for any cell phones or firearms. According to the warrant, police found six phones and two guns.

Williams told police she did not have any contact with her father and denied any wrongdoing, the warrant states. She later said she was texting her dad pretending to be her mother, explaining that they “talked about money that would be owed to him or the other family members through an inheritance.”

Police say they looked into Williams’ phones and did not find any messages with the confidential source, but they found a chat from October that used the acronym “MFH,” which detectives believed referred to “murder for hire.”

Court records indicate Williams has posted bond, and she was released on medium-level electronic monitoring. She is barred from having any weapons while released. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for September 13.
