Massachusetts State Police detectives and local police are investigating a shooting at a Brockton home that left a 15-year-old boy dead, according to reports.
The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office said Brockton police received a call shortly before 3:25 p.m. Friday about a person who had been shot in the chest at a Lynn Road residence.
First responders found the teenage shooting victim and performed lifesaving measures before transporting him to South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, where he was pronounced dead.
The district attorney’s office is not identifying the shooting victim at this time, but he was identified by his mother as Jason Benson Green.
“Just always that person to make you laugh. Always dancing. He loved basketball. I’m really going to miss him. We’re all going to miss him,” Pemi Benson, Jason’s mother, said. “I just want to know what happened to my son, what exactly happened. That’s all. I just want the truth. That’s all.”
Benson said footage from her home security camera shows that after her son got home from school, he changed clothes and went out. Jason was last seen heading toward a friend’s house on Lynn Road and, according to Benson, someone from that home called her to say her son had been shot.
“It was like: ‘Wait, what happened?'” Benson said. “Even right now, this is like a nightmare.”
A 17-year-old boy has been arrested and charged with possession of a firearm in connection with the shooting, according to the district attorney’s office.
“It’ll come to light. The truth always does. I believe that,” Benson said. “I believe that.”
The shooting continues to be investigated by the Brockton Police Department and the State Police Unit assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office.
