Police have released the name of a 19-year-old Michigan woman who was shot and killed on the southwest side of Grand Rapids this weekend, according to reports.
Alana Vasquez was killed in a shooting that happened during a car meetup in the early hours of Sunday, September 3, according to a release from the Grand Rapids Police Department.
Police are now seeking any information about the shooting, including videos or photos that were taken before, during or immediately after the incident.
“Our priority is solving Alana’s murder,” Chief Eric Winstrom said in a statement. “We understand that photos and videos may contain evidence of reckless driving, alcohol consumption, and similar offenses. We are focused on information that will lead to justice for Alana and her loved ones, not retroactively investigating these minor crimes, and we need the community’s help to do that.”
Grand Rapids police responded to reports of a shooting at 1:15 a.m. Sunday, near the intersection of Freeman Avenue SW and Hall Street SW.
The 19-year-old shooting victim was taken from the scene to be treated at an area hospital, where she later died.
Any evidence or information about the shooting that is disclosed through Silent Observer will be anonymous, the police department reiterated.
“Silent Observer does not disclose sources of information to the police,” Winstrom said. “We are asking for any information—witness statements, photos, videos—to help us solve the egregious murder of a teenager. That is our focus.”
