Two people are dead and a deputy is injured following a violent home invasion in South Carolina that left a 9-year-old boy without parents.
The Lexington County Sheriff’s Department says 39-year-old Jamal Walker came into the Lexington home of his ex-wife, Dominique Bolen Walker, around 1:30 Wednesday morning while their son was inside.
Investigators say that Walker shot 36-year-old Bolen Walker multiple times. She died inside the home, authorities said.
According to LCSD, Walker also shot a responding deputy, who had surgery Wednesday and is expected to recover.
The incident began in the 100 block of Prismatic Way in the Rocky Springs subdivision, which is near Rocky Creek Elementary School.
After shooting the deputy, Walker crashed through a garage door with his ex-wife’s car, and tried to drive off while shooting at law enforcement, LCSD says.
Deputies chased him for several miles.
At one point, State Highway Patrol officers deployed a tire deflation device, and Walker got out of the car and fired additional rounds.
Law enforcement officers shot at Walker multiple times and killed him in the 2900 block of Two Notch Road, according to the Lexington County Coroner’s Office.
“Just a tough day, Lexington County needs prayers this morning,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said in a joint news conference with the Lexington Police Department Wednesday morning. “Obviously, there’s a family that will never be the same, we got a deputy that’s shot … All of the officers involved, please pray. But, our hearts go out to that little [9-year-old] boy.”
The two had divorced in 2022.
“Recently, we’d been over to that residence, where the female resided, with some harassing phone call type reports, nothing that would indicate this level of violence.”
Koon added Walker has a criminal history in Florida from several years ago, but “nothing too serious.”
The son that the two share was unharmed, and is in the custody of his grandfather, Koon said.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division is investigating the officer-involved, as is standard protocol.
Autopsies for both Jamal Walker and Dominique Walker will be performed at the Medical University of South Carolina on Friday morning.
