A Missouri couple has been sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty in the death of a 32-year-old woman, according to reports.
Michael Hendricks and Maggie Ybarra were convicted earlier this summer for the killing of 32-year-old Kensie Renee Aubry.
This summer, Hendricks was found guilty of first-degree murder, first-degree harassment, attempted enticement of a child, third-degree child molestation, and first-degree sexual misconduct.
A jury also found Ybarra was guilty of second-degree murder, attempted enticement of a child, first-degree sexual misconduct, attempted tampering with physical evidence during a felony prosecution, and three counts of attempted tampering with a victim in a felony prosecution.
“My office spent countless hours ensuring justice in this case of frankly unspeakable human behavior. We sought the maximum punishment under the law,” said Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker in a statement. “I am proud of the trial team that brought these defendants to today’s fitting outcome. I must once again highlight the bravery of the young victim who led law enforcement to these defendants. I also want to commend law enforcement, especially the Grandview Police Department, for believing and acting upon the word of this young victim. Justice could not have been achieved without her bravery and her innate sense of right and wrong. She ultimately delivered this just verdict.”
In July 2021, FBI investigators discovered Aubry’s body in the backyard of Hendricks’ and Ybarra’s home.
The police were directed to the residence in the 4000 block of South Buckner Tarsney Road following testimony from a female teenager who was allegedly sexually abused by Hendricks and Ybarra.
Court documents reveal the teenager told police, “Maggie showed her photographs on a cellphone of a woman with her hands tied, naked and gagged.”
Detectives, accompanied by cadaver dogs, searched Hendricks’ home in Grain Valley.
The dogs detected blood on a circular saw and in a bathroom.
