An Ohio mother and daughter who were accused by police of abuse of a corpse after a newborn’s body was found in a bucket in the trunk of a car were indicted Friday on murder charges.
Last week, Hilliard police charged 36-year-old Basma Alkelezli and her daughter 19-year-old Hanan Al Jabouli. They accused Alkelezli, the mother, of placing the newborn in a plastic trash bag and then instructing her daughter to dispose of it.
Police were notified by medics after taking Alkelezli to a hospital that they noticed signs of a recent birth. Police went to the residence but did not find the child.
Investigators later found the newborn’s body in a trash bag inside an orange, five-gallon bucket in the trunk of a vehicle.
A grand jury on Friday charged Alkelezli with aggravated murder, murder, involuntary manslaughter, strangulation or suffocation, two counts of endangering children, tampering with evidence, and abuse of a corpse, according to online court records.
Al Jabouli is facing aggravated murder, murder, strangulation or suffocation, endangering children, tampering with evidence, abuse of a corpse, and obstructing justice.
Franklin County jail records indicate they were both booked in the jail Friday after the indictment.
