A 17-year-old Kansas girl has now died after being dropped off at Stormont Vail Hospital with a life-threatening gunshot wound, according to reports.

The teen was dropped off at 1:29 a.m., and medical personnel at the hospital pronounced them deceased. TPD has identified the victim as 17-year-old Damayah R. Calhoun.

TPD Watch Commander says its investigation has led them to a possible crime scene in the 600 block of SE Lawrence St in Topeka. The scene was blocked off with crime scene tape and evidence markers in the front yard of a home in the area.

Dr. Tiffany Anderson released a statement following the identification of the victim, saying Calhoun was a student at the Center for Restorative Education (CRE).

Dear TPS Staff and Parents:

As the challenging day and week come to a close, this evening we were given permission by the mother of the recent victim of gun violence this morning to share this message tonight. As a result of gun violence, Damyah Renee Calhoun, tragically passed away this morning. She was a student enrolled at the Center for Restorative Education (CRE). She was known as a hard worker, had many friends, and was a senior planning to graduate in the fall.

Our deepest condolences are extended to the family and friends of Damyah Renee Calhoun.

The incident is now being investigated as Topeka’s 29th homicide. The investigation is ongoing.
