A 30-year-old Florida mother was found stabbed to death in an apartment fire that claimed the life of her 10-month-old baby and injured two other children, and a suspect has been charged.

At a press conference Wednesday, Daytona Beach Police Chief Jakari Young said the deadly incident was the “most horrendous and horrific crime I’ve experienced throughout my entire career. The defendant in this incident deserves a special place in the gates of hell.”

34-year-old Charles Ivy is facing two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted felony murder, and arson in the late Monday attack.

Police and firefighters were called to an apartment fire at 1200 Belville Road in Daytona Beach and found 30-year-old Den’Jah Moore and her three children inside.

Moore had been stabbed. Her three children — a 10-month old boy, a 4-year-old and a 5-year-old — were taken to the hospital where the infant later died.

The two older children remain in critical condition at the hospital. “Their injuries were as a result of being left to die in a fully engulfed fire,” Young said.

The main fire reportedly started in a bedroom and firefighters found all four kitchen stove burners turned on inside the apartment, according to Ivy’s arrest affidavit.

At the press conference, Young said he believed Ivy is the father of at least two of the children.

“This is most definitely domestic in nature,” Young said.

Police later pulled over Ivy in a traffic stop after he was allegedly seen placing bags inside his SUV, according to police.

“The defendant did not confess to what he did, but what he did was he placed himself on scene,” Young alleged. “He put himself on scene around the time that these murders would have occurred. Through technology, we were able to track his vehicle via traffic cameras leaving the area after this incident would have occurred and he was also in possession, admittedly, of the victim’s cell phone. So we’re still doing some legwork as far as the investigation goes, but the evidence is clear.”

It’s unclear if Ivy has entered a plea or retained an attorney.
