A 24-year-old Virginia woman has died as a result of a shooting Saturday, and police have charged her husband with murder in connection with her death, according to reports.

Officers responded to an area hospital at 5:04 p.m. on Saturday, January 6 to investigate after a woman, identified as 24-year-old Desire Alexandria Buggs was brought there with gunshot wounds and later died, according to Master Police Officer Renee Carr, a Prince William County police spokeswoman.

The preliminary investigation revealed her husband, 24-year-old Daniel Okoe Lawson, brought Buggs to the hospital after the shooting and provided detectives with an account of what led up to it, Carr said in a news release.

Police later found the weapon believed to be used in the shooting and determined Lawson was allegedly involved in the incident, Carr said in a news release.

Following the investigation, Lawson was arrested and charged with murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and shooting into an occupied vehicle, the release said.

Lawson was being held without bond Sunday at the Prince William-Manassas Adult Detention Center pending a court hearing, the release said.

Detectives are continuing to investigate what led up to the shooting and where it occurred. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police at 703-792-7000 or submit a webtip at pwcva.gov/policetip.
