A 45-year-old Garfield Heights, Ohio woman is dead after being shot several times in a home, according to a news release from Garfield Heights police.

A 36-year-old Cleveland man is being held in custody in connection with the killing of Daytona Thomas, the release says. Formal charges have not yet been filed.

The shooting happened about 2 p.m. Thursday at a home on South Parkway Drive just east of East 131st Street, police said.

Police got a call about a woman, later identified as Thomas, who was found unresponsive in the home.

Officers arrived and found she had suffered from several gunshot wounds. Paramedics arrived at the home and pronounced her dead at the scene.

The 36-year-old Cleveland man is being held in Garfield Heights police custody in connection with the killing, but police but did not provide further information.

Garfield Heights police, the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation are investigating the shooting.
