Authorities have identified a woman found dead Thursday along Metropolitan Parkway in southwest Atlanta and arrested a teenager in connection with her shooting.
Nigel Sherrod Andrews, a 17-year-old from Atlanta, has been arrested and charged for the murder of a 37-year-old woman named Joyce Yates, who was identified on Tuesday after she was fatally shot and found in the parking lot of a strip mall last week.
After finding Yates’ body in the largely abandoned Atlanta strip mall, police arrested Andrews a day later and charged him as an adult. The teen faces multiple counts of felony murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, aggravated assault and carjacking.
“We are appreciative of the collaborative efforts of the Active Criminal Enforcement unit, Georgia State Patrol, Gangs unit and Zone 3 in assisting Investigator Malone in bringing this investigation to a close and providing closure for the victim’s family,” police said in a statement.
Andrews was booked into the Fulton County Jail on Friday. He remains in jail without bond.
Police haven’t provided additional details about the case.
