Police said a young mother stabbed her 1-year-old child in front of an officer in Greenville, North Carolina on Monday.

The toddler was transported to the hospital after being stabbed by the 21-year-old woman, officials said.

Cierra Dyer was charged with attempted murder and felony child abuse. She was being held under a $1.5 million bond.

Police said that Dyer was arguing with a family member over who had the child’s custody. When police arrived at the scene, she was stabbing her 1-year-old in the back. When the officer confronted her, she dropped the weapon, according to officials.

The stabbing took place in a residential area on Taylor Street, across from Greenville Community Christian Church.

The toddler is expected to make a full recovery.
