A North Carolina woman has been arrested in connection with the death of a mother of three whose body was found in June near Urbancrest village in southwestern Franklin County.

25-year-old Tiffany Reid was booked into the Franklin County jail on Tuesday on a charge of aggravated murder filed by Franklin County Sheriff’s detectives, according to jail and court records. The charge stems from the death of 23-year-old Jenay Crawley, a mother of three. She was last seen alive on June 14 dropping off her 1-year-old son at an apartment on Station Road in Prairie Township, North Carolina.

Reid had previously been indicted on charges of aggravated murder, murder, tampering with evidence and abuse of a corpse, along with 23-year-old Higle Mire.

Mire has been in custody since June. According to court records, he admitted to sheriff’s investigators to being in the Station Road apartment where Crawley was last seen on June 14.

Court records show Crawley had gone inside the apartment on the 400 block of Station Road, where she was assaulted and killed. Her death was ruled by the Franklin County Coroner’s office to be the result of strangulation.

Crawley’s body was found in a grassy area off Lincoln Road near Urbancrest, where it had been set on fire.

Mire admitted, according to court records, to buying bed sheets, gasoline, charcoal fluid and a grill lighter, as well as disposing of Crawley’s vehicle and transporting Crawley’s body to the area where it was found and setting it on fire. He also admitted to holding Crawley’s child while she was being assaulted.

According to court records, Reid admitted to detectives that she was involved in planning Crawley’s homicide, but said she was not in the apartment when Crawley was killed.

Reid told detectives she helped clean up damage in the apartment that she believed had been done when Crawley was killed. Reid also said she and the father of Crawley’s child — who has not been charged with any crime in connection with Crawley’s death — followed Mire to the grassy area where Crawley’s body was set on fire. Reid said she watched the fire start.

Reid is currently being held in the Franklin County jail.
