An Elkton woman is charged with attempted murder for allegedly setting fire to a Cecil County home this weekend, after the people there asked her to leave.

The house on Pheasant Drive in Elkton, Maryland had two people inside. An 87-year-old woman was also inside, according to a notice of investigation from the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s office.

22-year-old Zillah Marie Jones allegedly poured gas on the front door of the home, lit it on fire, and left the area just before 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

She is charged with first-degree and second-degree arson, two counts of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree and second-degree malicious burning, attempted fourth-degree burglary, trespassing and two counts of reckless endangerment.

A witness was able to stop the fire by putting it out with a garden hose.

Jones is being held without bond.
