A 37-year-old woman has been arrested for allegedly shooting and killing her boyfriend at a Las Vegas apartment on Sunday, according to police.

Shanika Smith was taken into custody after police got a report of a shooting around 10:05 p.m. in the 900 block of E. Twain Avenue, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

Arriving officers found a man suffering from a gunshot wound, and medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene, LVMPD said.

Detectives responded and learned the man had been in an argument with Smith, his girlfriend, who allegedly shot him.

Two children were inside the apartment when the shooting took place, police say, and Smith was booked on suspicion of open murder with a deadly weapon and child abuse/neglect.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office will release the name of the victim, along with official rulings on cause and manner of death.
