A Lansing, Michigan woman charged in the March 20 shooting death of a Jackson woman was been convicted of several charges on Wednesday.

Mackenzie Lynn Quarrels was convicted of murder Wednesday in connection with a fatal shooting.

25-year-old Krashawna Emond Walker was fatally shot in Summit Township on March 20, 2021. Walker was found lying on the sidewalk in the 200 block of W. South Street in Summit Township, police said. She had a gunshot wound to her chest and was taken to Henry Ford Allegiance Health, where she later died from her injuries.

Quarrels was identified as a suspect and was taken into custody two days later in Battle Creek.

During Quarrels’ arraignment, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Nathan Hull said the incident allegedly began with an argument over parking. Walker had approached Quarrels’ vehicle, prompting Quarrels to allegedly take a gun from her purse and shoot Walker before fleeing the scene, Hull said.

Walker allegedly approached the vehicle aggressively, said Quarrels’ defense attorney Kareem Johnson.

Quarrels was arrested without incident on March 22 at a Battle Creek apartment complex after a two-hour negotiation with detectives, police said.

A jury convicted Quarrels guilty Wednesday on charges of second-degree murder, felony firearm and carrying a concealed weapon. She faces the possibility of life in prison.

Quarrels is expected to return to court June 8 for sentencing.
