Police in Alabama are conducting a homicide investigation after a man was killed and another injured after an altercation on Friday night in Birmingham.
The Birmingham Police Department said the incident occurred on Friday at approximately 10:55 pm. Officers were dispatched to the 4200 of 2nd Avenue South on report of a person shot.
Officers arrived on the scene, at an apartment complex, when they found a man lying unresponsive on a staircase suffering from a gunshot wound. A second man was found lying unresponsive on the sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound.
The victim has been identified as 25-year-old Roderick Mariachi Williams, Jr.
Birmingham Fire and Rescue (BFR) personnel arrived on the scene and pronounced Williams deceased. BFR transported the second male victim to UAB Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The preliminary investigation suggests the two victims were involved in an altercation with a third man before shots fired.
Officers took the third man into custody as a person of interest.
