Authorities in Alabama have released the name of a man killed in a Saturday afternoon shooting in an east Birmingham public housing community.

Birmingham police on Sunday identified the victim a 43-year-old Morrion Hamilton.

East Precinct officers were dispatched at 4:40 p.m. to a report of gunfire in the 7500 block of 66th Court Way South in Gate City. Once on the scene, they found Hamilton unresponsive in an alley, said Officer Truman Fitzgerald.

Officers applied pressure to the victim’s wounds until Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service arrived. They transported him to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

He had been shot multiple times.

Fitzgerald said Shot Spotter registered at least 10 shots fired, and police found numerous shell casings.

The preliminary investigation suggests the victim was involved in an argument with the unknown suspect. The shooter fired shots at the victim then fled the scene in a vehicle.

No arrests have been made.

Fitzgerald said investigators need anyone who may have seen or heard the altercation to call homicide detectives at 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
