Deputies in Mississippi are investigating after they said a 13-year-old boy shot his 16-year-old girlfriend while filming a video.

The shooting happened around 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 28 in the Oak Grove subdivision off of Old Fannin Road.

Rankin County Deputies said the 16-year-old was helping the 13-year-old film a video when a shot was fired through a cellphone. She was taken to a hospital where she was listed in stable condition.

According to Paul Holley, with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, the gun that was used in the shooting had been stolen. He said the department is still investigating how the 13-year-old got the gun.

Holley said the 13-year-old was still in custody on Friday. He’s expected to appear in court on Monday, August 1.

The names of the two teenagers were not released.

The teen is facing an aggravated assault charge.
