A man was charged Thursday after police alleged he beat and strangled his girlfriend, hit her with a TV and threatened her with a knife.
31-year-old Javiaz Edwards was arrested and charged with two counts of first-degree domestic assault, second-degree kidnapping and unlawful use of a weapon.
Investigators say that on July 18th, Edwards accused his girlfriend of cheating on him and punched her and strangled her until she passed out in their apartment. The victim regained consciousness only to find Edwards Kicking and stomping her.
Edwards was extremely angry about the cheating allegations and in the midst of the assault, he allegedly grabbed a flatscreen television from nearby and hit the victim in the head and body with it.
As the victim curled up in a fetal position to protect herself from anymore strikes, Edwards grabbed a knife and threatened her. Her hand was cut by the knife while trying to protect her face.
For hours Edwards destroyed the apartment while threatening the victim. He broke her phone and refused to let her leave. Edwards eventually went to another area of the apartment and the victim escaped out of a window. She ran to a relative’s home and they called the police.
Police say that the woman was incoherent when they were trying to talk to her. They noticed several head injuries, bruises and cuts to her body.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Upon search of the apartment for Edwards, police found bloody pillowcases, bloody TV, bloody walls and the knife used in the assault thrown in the closet.
Edwards was found and arrested immediately. The court set a cash-only bond of $300,000.
