A man was shot and killed after a fight between two groups of people outside of a Texas bowling alley early Sunday, according to Houston police.
The man was identified by family members as 24-year-old Greg Shead.
Shead was shot and killed outside the Bowlero on Bunkerhill Road. Family members say Greg was trying to break up a fight between women. At one point, he was shot at least once.
He died at the scene.
“It’s just hard to believe. It’s such a tragedy,” Martinez said.
Commander Bryant said witnesses reported a white-colored SUV was spotted leaving the scene, and police believe that vehicle may be connected to the shooting.
He graduated from Atascocita High School, and moved to California. He had recently returned to Houston to visit his mother and his 11-month-old daughter.
“I just can’t see him starting anything to get him in trouble,” David Martinez said.
It was hard for Atascocita Basketball Coach David Martinez to talk about Greg Shead Jr.
“I don’t know I’m just lost for words. It’s really had me choked up all day today,” he said.
Greg was a standout point for Atascocita. He led his team to back 2 back 2 back district championships in 2014, 2015, and 2016.
“He was so talented, he was smart, witty and he was a wiz with the basketball,” Martinez said.
Greg played at South Plains College before moving to Los Angeles. His Instagram Page is full of fitness videos and inspiring messages. Those who knew him shared their condolences on social media.
Family, friends, coaches and teammates cherishing memories of Greg who is already missed.
“You know the violence. I wish it would stop. These kids have a lot of potential. They have dreams like everyone else and he will never get to see that,” Martinez said.
No weapons were recovered at the scene, police said.
Investigators are still searching for the alleged shooter.
