An arrest has been made in a June double shooting that left two people dead in Jacksonville, Florida.

On Monday, June 20, 2022, at approximately 9:30 p.m., patrol officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office responded to the intersection of Bowden Road and Spring Park Road in reference to a reported shooting.  Police said 21-year-old Jamarion Barnes and 20-year-old Tyniya Powell were found dead inside a car in a parking lot.

Members of JSO’s Homicide and Crime Scene Units were notified and responded to the scene to begin their respective investigations.  Following a detailed investigation, evaluation of available evidence and the vetting of tips that came in from our community, detectives were able to identify a person of interest in this case which ultimately lead to a warrant being issued for the suspect.

Raishion Gist was arrested in connection with the shooting. Police said the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force also helped in the investigation.

The shooting happened back in June on Bowden Road near the I-95 off-ramp. According to JSO, the two people were found inside a car next to an ATM. Barnes died at the scene and Powell died at the hospital.

Earlier this year, the family lost Jamarion Barnes’ younger brother to gun violence. Loved ones were already grieving Jelijah Barnes’s death when Jamarion Barnes was killed.

On March 13, according to police, a man, identified as Jelijah Barnes, died after being shot multiple times while getting out of a vehicle near a home on Beekman Lake Drive in a neighborhood in the Chimney Lakes area.

Gist is expected to appear in court Thursday morning at 9 a.m. and is facing murder charges.
