The remains of a California woman who disappeared months ago were found in Amador County, officials said Friday.
A resident in the community of Plymouth called the Amador County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday afternoon after they found what they believed were human remains, according to the City of Oakley in Contra Costa County.
Deputies responded and found the remains but waited until Friday morning to further investigate because it was getting dark by the time they showed up, the city of Oakley said.
The Amador County Sheriff said the remains were found along Highway 16 near Longate Road just across from the Sacramento County line.
Officers with the Oakley and Antioch police departments also came to help investigate. After some time, the city of Oakley said that not only were the remains identified as 24-year-old Alexis Gabe, but that the rest of her remains are scattered in other areas.
“Due the condition of Alexis’ remains we realize there may never be a full recovery of her,” the city of Oakley said.
It is believed that she was murdered by her then-boyfriend Marshall Jones in January. When police in June tried to arrest Jones in Seattle, he was killed in a confrontation with officers.
It is unknown how Gabe died.
