Police are looking for a 19-year-old Pennsylvania woman who is a suspect in a fatal shooting in York.

Police said Alajah Holmes is wanted for criminal homicide in the December 31 shooting death of an 18-year-old woman.

Officers dispatched to the 300 block of West Jackson Street just after 12:30 a.m. for a reported shooting found the woman with a gunshot wound.

The 18-year-old had been walking in that area when shots were fired, according to a York County Coroner’s Office report. She was taken to WellSpan York Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at 1:17 a.m.

Her family identified her as 18-year-old Amiya Paige.

Her mother, Patricia Brown, said she can’t believe her daughter was gunned down.

Brown said the shooter was in a rental truck.

“How do you just do that? I mean, you just pull up in a U-Haul truck and start shooting out the window?” Brown said.

Police would not comment on the circumstances of the shooting but said multiple shots were fired.

Brown said Paige was the youngest of eight children.

“She would always come in my room and be, like, ‘Hey, your favorite girl’s home. Your favorite girl’s here,” Brown said.

“I never thought I’d get that call, and I feel sorry for all the moms that ever got that call,” Brown said.

It’s believed an argument led to the shooting.

Paige’s family said Holmes has family ties but is not a blood relative.

Anyone with information on Holmes or the shooting is asked to call the York City Police at 717-846-1234 or 717-849-2219.
