A charge of murder has been filed against a Texas woman who told San Antonio police she shot her boyfriend after he violated a protective order.

Police took the suspect, now identified as 23-year-old Israel Reyes into custody at that time.

She was charged with murder Wednesday.

An arrest warrant affidavit also identifies the victim as 41-year-old Zachary Williamson. It says that he and Reyes had been dating and had an eight-month-old child together.

According to the affidavit, Reyes shot Williamson in the face, killing him, then told police it was self-defense.

However, after talking to witnesses and examining the crime scene, police determined that her story did not match the findings.

The affidavit says they found evidence that Williamson had been at Reyes home at the Preserve at Westover Hills apartments for hours and even had a meal.

Police say witnesses also told them that the couple had a troubled relationship which involved Reyes assaulting Williamson several times.

An autopsy conducted on Williamson showed he had numerous injuries to his body in various stages of healing, including recent bruises from being beaten in the head, the affidavit says.

Reyes, who reportedly has had previous trouble with the law, was not able to explain to investigators exactly what led to the shooting, the affidavit said.

She was booked into jail Wednesday with bond set at $175,000.
