A 35-year-old New York woman is accused of pouring a hot slow cooker stew on a man and repeatedly hitting him with a baseball bat, according to the Utica Police Department.

Police said China Butler got into an argument with a male acquaintance around 1:30 a.m. May 5 at a residence in the 700 block of Court Street in Utica. Police said Butler grabbed a slow cooker and dumped a stew over the man’s head, causing severe burns to his head and body.

Butler then repeatedly struck the man in the head with a baseball bat, authorities stated.

The victim was rushed to University Hospital in Syracuse. Police said his injuries were serious, but not life-threatening.

Butler was located and taken into custody on Eagle Street on Thursday. Police said Butler is charged with one count each of first-degree assault and third-degree possession of a weapon, both felonies. She is scheduled to appear in Utica City Court.
