Two men in Florida are facing multiple charges, including attempted murder, after they confronted one of the men’s ex-girlfriends and a man she was sitting in a car with, Miami-Dade police said.

The incident was reported the evening of July 11 in the 10900 block of Northwest 22nd Court.

According to the suspects’ arrest reports, the victims were parked outside a home in the area when a black Dodge Durango pulled up and blocked in their car.

Police said 24-year-old Aldo Zair Martinez who is the female victim’s ex-boyfriend, then approached the victims’ car, opened the driver’s-side door and pointed a gun at the male victim while demanding his property.

Police said the victim refused to hand over anything and Martinez struck him in the head with the gun and removed the keys from the center console.

A physical altercation then ensued between the two men, at which time another person who had arrived in the Durango with Martinez, Cesar Hernandez, joined in the fight, striking the victim several times, according to police.

A witness in the area noticed the woman in the car and helped her out of the vehicle, authorities said.

According to the arrest reports, Martinez and Hernandez fled the scene and the male victim began driving away as the female victim followed behind on foot.

Police said the male victim’s car stalled, however, since he no longer had the key.

According to the arrest reports, the suspects made a U-turn and headed back toward the victims, shooting at the male victim’s car, striking it twice.

Both men were identified by the victims in a photo lineup. They were both taken into custody Monday at their homes.

Police said Martinez refused to speak with detectives while Hernandez provided a “self-serving statement,” claiming he had no knowledge of the incident.

Both men face charges of attempted murder, armed robbery and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. Martinez faces an additional count of discharging a firearm from a vehicle.

As of Tuesday afternoon, both men were being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without bond.
