Three people have been arrested in the death, Mya Fuller, a 22-year-old who was found in a rural part of Wilson County in early August last year.
The three suspects, 21-year-old Taiyana Tipton, Tipton’s brother 20-year-old Ty’Shawne Bowles, and 20-year-old La’Myra Pipkins, are charged with first-degree murder in perpetration of a kidnapping. Tipton is also charged with abuse of a corpse.
Officials stated that the suspects and Fuller did not have an ongoing relationship and that they did not know Fuller prior to that day. Wilson County Sheriff Robert Bryan had vowed to catch those responsible for the murder of Fuller.
All three are held without bond in the Wilson County Jail and could face the death penalty.
“What helped us accomplish that was the hard work of all detectives behind me,” the sheriff said.
Fuller was last seen at the end of July 2022 after working a job at GEODIS Park in Nashville. She was reported missing from Murfreesboro and was last seen by family members on July 29. Her body was found six days later dumped in a wooded field off Trammel Lane in rural Wilson County.
Police say there were no red flags and that Fuller was a bright woman who worked hard and came from a loving family.
Detectives say security videos showing Mya with the suspects the night she disappeared are key to the case.
This past January they served warrants at the suspect’s homes, and with the help of Metro Nashville Police Department, they took them into custody.
“We are confident we have the people responsible for this,” said lead detective Walker Woods.
They do say the suspects — while having not confessed — have given statements implicating themselves. But, authorities don’t rule out the possibility that others may be involved so the case is not closed.
The three suspects are held without bond in the Wilson County Jail.
Detectives still have not released the cause of death or any motive.
