A South Carolina man charged in connection to the deaths of six people whose bodies were found in a burning Green Pond home last month is facing new charges.

Colleton County Sheriff Buddy Hill and 14th Circuit Solicitor Duffie Stone announced Monday that Ryan Manigo has been charged with three additional counts of murder, alongside a number of other charges to include incest and multiple counts of criminal sexual conduct.

The new charges include:

  • Three counts of murder
  • One count of first-degree arson
  • Two counts of criminal sexual conduct
  • Two counts of criminal sexual conduct with a minor
  • Two counts of kidnapping
  • Six counts of the possession of a deadly weapon in the commission of a violent crime
  • One count of incest

According to the solicitor’s office, the three new counts of murder are in connection to the deaths of 49-year-old Jefferson Burnell, 7-year-old Shamiah Rutledge, and 73-year-old Amose Magwood. The first-degree arson charge is tied to the death of 101-year-old Maggie Magwood.

The remaining charges are also in connection with the incident, according to the solicitor’s office.

These new charges are in addition to the previously served two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder for 50-year-old Michelle Marie Wright, 11-year-old Shariah Manigo, and a 13-year-old survivor.

With the new charges alone, Manigo faces up to three life sentences plus 221 years in prison, officials say.

The suspect is scheduled to appear before a magistrate at 3 p.m. on Monday in the Colleton County Council chambers. Following the appearance, according to the solicitor’s office, Manigo will remain in the Colleton County Detention Center until he appears before a circuit judge for bond setting at a later date.

On July 2, 2023, Colleton County sheriff’s deputies responded to Folly Creek Lane in the Green Pond community for reports of a house fire. When they arrived, they found six bodies inside a structure.

Some of the victims had reportedly been stabbed.

One victim, a 13-year-old girl, survived the ordeal with critical injuries.

Manigo was arrested later that day, initially charged with one count of attempted murder.
