A Nevada man is being accused of sexually assaulting a child under the age of 14 after the victim recently disclosed the incident that happened several summers ago, according to reports.
Joshua Paplow was arrested on Monday, August 21, and is facing one count of sexual assault against a child under 14 and one count of incest. According to the arrest report, the victim is believed to be the man’s daughter.
The incident was first reported back in January 2023 after the unidentified child was seen by a school counselor sitting at a table with a group of students both crying and laughing. She told the counselor that an ex-boyfriend had told a group of friends about the assault, which caused her to leave class crying.
She told the counselor that she thought it was time to come forward about what had happened, stating that it only happened once while she was visiting Paplow at his home in Las Vegas a few summers ago.
At the time, the report states that he was living with his girlfriend and her children at a home in Las Vegas, with the assault taking place when the girlfriend left to drop off one of the kids at daycare.
The child’s mother would later tell authorities she received a call from her daughter after she had disclosed the incident to the school counselor. Once her daughter had disclosed that Paplow had abused her, she replied by asking “what her dad had done to her.” The girl then explained what happened and no other mention of the two relationships would be detailed in the report.
Investigators followed up with witnesses, including the counselor, and later did a records check on Paplow. It was later found that he was a registered sex offender with a conviction out of Minnesota in 1999.
Paplow was taken into custody without incident at his central Las Vegas home and was asked if he wanted to provide a statement, to which he didn’t.
His bail was set at $100,000 and is due back in court on Thursday.
