A 22-year-old Alabama man has been charged in the weekend shooting death of a couple inside a Birmingham home, according to reports.

Charles Dunnigan III is charged with capital murder in the Sunday slayings of 28-year-old Damon Thomas and 24-year-old Jacquic Little.

The deadly shooting happened on Thomas’s birthday.

Birmingham police said the warrants were issued by the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office on Monday.

On Tuesday, Dunnigan was taken into custody in York by the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office and the 17th Judicial Task Force.

Just before 2:30 a.m. Sunday, the city’s gunfire detection system – Shot Spotter – alerted police to shots fired in the 1800 block of Fulton Avenue S.W. While they were en route, West Precinct officers were notified that a man was shot, said Officer Truman Fitzgerald.

When they arrived at the home, police found Little and Thomas wounded inside. Both were pronounced dead on the scene.

Thomas and Little were celebrating Thomas’s birthday. Just hours before the shooting that killed them both, Little posted on Facebook wishing him a happy birthday.

“I Just wanna be the first to say happy birthday to my superman🥰🤤💕my man my man my man my fiance my happy place my bestie my friend my listener for years📌❤️❤️😩I can’t thank God enough for blessing you for another year for you my king I pray for eternity🙏💐✨👑❤️❤️❤️❤️i love you so much baby and i love everything about you I been happy since 👄❤️🥰✨i love you I love you soo much my love😌💖😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘 Damon Thomas ❤️😘💕”

Authorities have not released a motive in the murder. The charge is capital because two people were killed.

According to posts from social media, Dunnigan was a family friend to Thomas.

Dunnigan was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 1:10 p.m. today. He is being held without bond.
