A 41-year-old Nevada man has been sentenced to up to life in prison for killing his wife with a baseball bat more than four years ago, according to reports.

Court records state Slobodan Miljus received his sentence in Clark County District Court on Thursday after reaching a plea deal with prosecutors on a murder charge to avoid trial in September.

Miljus will have to serve at least 20 years in prison before he is eligible for parole. He must also serve a consecutive sentence of one to 20 years for the deadly weapon enhancement. He will receive credit for more than four years of time served.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police arrested Miljus back in 2019 for allegedly bludgeoning his wife, 33-year-old Zvjezdana Bencun, at their home near Fort Apache Road and Sahara Avenue.

Police wrote in an arrest report that Miljus was found in a bed lying next to Bencun, and she was taken to a hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

According to an arrest report from LVMPD, Miljus bought a baseball bat and other items on the day of the attack. He then attacked Bencun with the bat while she was sleeping in bed.

Bencun’s mother told a Bosnian newspaper that her daughter was in the process of seeking a divorce.
