Police in Maryland said Sunday that homicide detectives are “pursuing leads” in a shooting early Saturday in the parking lot of a Woodlawn shopping center, where a 28-year-old died and four others were injured.

Police identified the man who was killed in the shooting on the 1800 block of Woodlawn Drive as 28-year-old Judah James in a Sunday afternoon news release.

The four people wounded included three men, ages 25, 26 and 29, as well as one 26-year-old woman, police said. A spokesperson for the department was not able to provide the conditions for the four people who were struck by gunfire but said Sunday afternoon that all of them were still in the hospital.

Officers responded at about 4:05 a.m. Saturday to the strip mall, which is across the street from the Baltimore County Public Library’s Woodlawn Branch and Woodlawn High School, and found the five people suffering from gunshot wounds. James died at the scene, and the others were taken to area hospitals.

Police had not identified any suspects by Sunday afternoon. Spokesperson Trae Corbin said investigators believe the gunfire was “a targeted incident.” The shooting took place in the parking lot of the shopping center, which includes a church, a health center, a hair salon, a hookah lounge, a ballroom and several restaurants. On Saturday morning, investigators were in front of a barbecue restaurant probing a white vehicle, which Corbin said was involved in the shooting.

When asked about what led up to the shooting, Corbin said detectives were still trying to figure it out.

“We don’t know exactly what took place,” he said Sunday afternoon.

Those with information on the shooting are asked to contact homicide detectives at 410-307-2020 or anonymously use the Metro Crime Stoppers tip line at 1-866-7LOCKUP.
