Honolulu Police officers in Hawaii responded to a fatal shooting today in the Pearlridge Office Center parking lot, according to reports. The alleged gunman was found dead in Waipahu after he shot and killed his wife.

Police are investigating this case as a murder-suicide.

44-year-old Jason Cachuela reportedly killed himself shortly after fleeing the scene in a gray Mazda.

“This is not a random act because the suspect and victim were in a relationship and that is why we have opened a case for murder in the 1st degree,” said Lieutenant Deena Thoemmes from the Honolulu Police Department Homicide Division.

Witnesses say it was their 6-year-old daughter who told police that her father shot her mother in the head.

The victim, 33-year-old Theresa Cachuela, recently filed a temporary restraining order against him. Court documents show the couple was just in court this past Wednesday. A family court judge granted a 1-year TRO two days ago stating the suspect and victim stay away from each other starting today.

Court documents also showed Jason was only allowed to contact Theresa for child custody. They were married for 10 years.

Theresa’s cousin, Terrell Scott, said he wants the community to remember Theresa as a dedicated mother and business owner.

“She was very supportive of her kids and she did everything she could to protect them. She’s super loving and an amazing woman. I love her and I’m sorry her kids are going through this,” said Scott.

Jason Cachuela was also ordered to turn in any firearms he owned.

“These are children that lost their parents and you can’t bring them back, they can’t bring anything back. It’s sad and depressing especially during Christmas, this is all the kids will remember,” said Jose Rodriguez-Rosa, a Kailua resident.

This incident remains under investigation.
