A Cincinnati, Ohio couple charged in a 5-month-old boy’s death face more charges.
Hamilton County grand jurors added involuntary manslaughter and child endangering charges against Donte Farrier and Shakayla Sams. Both are now facing a total of 10 charges each, including murder.
Back in December, Cincinnati police charged the 5-month-old’s mother, 19-year-old Shakayla Sams and 19-year-old Donte Farrier, with murder.
According to police, officers were called to the Villages at Roll Hill for a report of an unresponsive baby the morning of Dec. 22.
Investigators said emergency crews took the child from a home on Sunnyhill Drive to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
CPD said the baby boy, Casey Sams, died that Monday from his injuries. Officials did not specify the type of injuries the boy suffered.
Neighbors said they’ve never witnessed anything like what is described by investigators, but one person says he has heard the couple argue before.
“I’m just sad. I’m sad that that little baby had to go through that, what he going through right now,” neighbor Denise George said. “Anybody in any domestic violence situation, you need to reach out and get help. They got too many resources and stuff like this happen every day.”
According to court documents, Sams and Farrier are also charged with child endangerment and share at least one child together who is also in the home, but Farrier’s connection to the baby boy is not clear.
The documents allege both children were injured over several months as far back as June 22.
