A 12-year-old Alabama boy was shot and killed in Center Point early Saturday morning, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

The boy has been identified as Anterrius Hill by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.

Deputies were dispatched to the 300 block of Oxford Acres Circle on reports of a juvenile who had been shot just after midnight. When they arrived on scene, they found the boy suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound.

Some treatment was provided at the scene and the child was transported to Children’s Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

An investigation is currently underway into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

The sheriff’s office said it is speaking with multiple witnesses, including another male juvenile who was thought to be present at the time of the shooting.
